4 Seasons  All seasons tell a tale of woe and wonder as the landscape bares witness.  Although we cannot deter or determine, we can listen to the narrative and interpret the anecdotal evidence before us.  That is, our grass is struggling.

Browning Grass  Why oh why, in one of the wettest Springs and early Summers, is our grass laboring?  After all, it’s only been a week since our last rainfall, yet our lawns are going dormant already?  It wasn’t that long ago when the grass was growing at a furious rate, and we could barely keep pace.  Upon appearance, you might guess our lawns have been in a drought, but we know this simply isn’t true, so what is it?

Lawn's Shallow Roots  Our lawns have become spoiled and lazy.  The roots never had to work hard to find water, so they are somewhat shallow and weak.  With the constant flow of rain, the lawns’ root systems became apathetic.  Take away the constant flow, and the grass was completely taken off guard.  This is why when applying supplemental watering, it is always recommended to water infrequently but deeply, so the roots must work a little, digging deep and growing robust and strong.  The onset of hot, humid weather is also a factor, especially when night-time temperatures remain muggy and warm.  So what now?

Lawn Sprinkler  Luckily, it appears rain is on its way, but if you don’t feel you can wait, you can water, but do so responsibly.  Apply a little tough love, and follow these proper watering techniques.

“Until man duplicates a blade of grass, nature can laugh at his so called scientific knowledge.”
