Slumped and listless, the flag seemed to be spilling down the pole, like a lit candle in a wine bottle.  Every so often, it would arch its back laboriously as a whiff of wind sputtered by.  The heft of humidity was great, and the discomfort even greater.  The dog days of Summer have set in, but hope is around the corner.  Hope in the form of tolerable temps and humidity levels as Summer begins its farewell tour.

Today, admittedly, is better.  Cooler, but damp.  Much needed rain graced our desiccated soil last night and this morning while a cool front raced in behind it.  Although short-lived, I’ll savor this break as it reminds us that Fall will soon send Summer and her groupies packing.
